Abstract

Notebook PC demand in major regional markets was on the upswing in the first quarter of 2007, and spending in emerging markets, including Central and Eastern Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, continued to increase. Furthermore, international brands engaged in new product promotions coinciding with the market launch of the home edition of Windows Vista at the end of January. The global notebook PC market reached a scale of nearly 20 million units in the first quarter, up approximately 30% year-on-year. Due to increased orders from international brands, Taiwanese notebook PC shipment volume in the first quarter of 2007 is estimated at 18.30 million units, up nearly 40% year-on-year, but down 7.9% sequentially.
